Short of shouting it from the rooftops, Hannah Wine is ready to enthusiastically share her love for Women’s Healthcare of Illinois with anyone who will listen.
“Women’s Healthcare of Illinois is the complete package,” said the Joliet resident, who is pictured above with Dr. Ken Finkelstein. “They have built the perfect team. They have the best surgeon, great doctors, amazing midwives … they do it all in-house.”
Da Vinci magic
In late 2019, Hannah became the 900th patient to receive a da Vinci robotic assisted surgery from Dr. Finkelstein, the founder of Women’s Healthcare of Illinois.
With the da Vinci Surgical System, Dr. Finkelstein operates through just a few small incisions. As a result, he can operate with enhanced vision, precision, and control, which means the surgery is less invasive, resulting in fewer scars and quicker healing.
“I had a wonderful hysterectomy surgery experience,” Hannah said. “After just two weeks of recovery, I was back to normal and feeling great. Dr. Ken is the best.”
A rewarding surgery is what we always strive for, but that wasn’t what originally brought Hannah to our doors.
The power of the midwife
“I only found Women’s Healthcare of Illinois because I loved my midwife so much, so when she left her old practice and came here, I followed her,” Hannah said. That midwife is Beth Helme-Smith, who has more than 20 years experience.
“Caring for Hannah has always been a pleasure,” Beth said. “She brings concerns and questions, and always educates herself on options. She really participates in her care.”
It’s that participation that draws praise from Hannah, as well.
The best team in place
“Beth makes me feel so comfortable because she takes the time to walk me through all of my options,” said Hannah, whose initial visit to WHC resulted in a diagnosis of fibroid tumors, which are abnormal growths that develop in or on a woman’s uterus.
“After that diagnosis, we discussed different options,” Hannah said. “Beth brought in Dr. Mitchell Khan, and the three of us collaborated on the best path forward.”
And did Hannah get along with Dr. Khan?
“Immediately,” she said. “Right away, he felt like an old friend. The trust was there right from the start, and that’s so important to me.”
Hannah’s path to Dr. Ken
As Beth mentioned, Hannah does her homework. She asks around, goes online for reviews, leaves no stone unturned. And when it became clear that a hysterectomy would be needed, Hannah sought opinions from people she respects.
“I trust Beth and Dr. Khan, and without hesitation, they both insisted I meet with Dr. Ken.” Hannah said. “They said, ‘Ken is the guy!’”
She took their advice, met with Dr. Finkelstein, and within minutes was certain of her decision.
“I was so comforted by his knowledge and confidence,” Hannah said. “He is so kind, and he listened … he really listened. The way all three of them communicated with me and with each other put all my fears at ease.
“I cannot recommend them highly enough. I love Women’s Healthcare of Illinois.”
Maybe she is ready to shout it from the rooftops.
